Free Download: 25 Full Resolution Textures

Here are 25 cool high resolution textures I've found around my house and backyard the past several days. There are literally tons of sweet things you could do with these bad boys. I've been using textures for several years now with great success. Textures can really add a lot of depth to images, but they can also ruin them.

Hmm, maybe I should post on that...

Feel free to use the textures for any non commercial work you see fit. If your looking to use them commercially shoot me an email and we'll work something out.

So which ones do you like the best?

Photographer Spotlight: George Lange

George Lange's lighthearted, imaginative and clean photographic style has given him access to subjects that most of us can only dream about photographing. One quickly realizes this entire last sentence upon first glance of his quirky website. What I really want you to check out, even If you see nothing else would be his Videos, specifically this one.

So, what do you think?

Recommended Links: Sports Shooter

Are you interested in becoming a professional photographer but would like a little insight into the profession first? Maybe you're already a pro and you're looking for a place to swap war stories. If either of these describe you then I would suggest checking out Sports Shooter. It's a great place to see what real world working pros are saying about all aspects of the industry. The great thing is that unlike it's name suggests, Sports Shooter's members work in many different fields from wedding to adventure photography (although some might argue that weddings are adventure photography). There is just one catch, you won't be allowed to post on the forums without being a member (and becoming one isn't easy). I've never joined, but the insight that it has provide me over the years has been invaluable. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Photographer Spotlight: Jeremy Cowart

Nashville based photographer Jeremy Cowart's beautifully clean and crisp photography style is stunningly simple yet effective. His sense of selective focus and light gives him the ability to completely immerse viewers into a different world, a smaller world. Oh and when he's not photographing small time celebrities like Sting or Carrie Underwood he spends his time traveling the world and making images for his book Hope in the Dark an altogether exceptionally engaging book covering the plight of the African people and the AIDS epidemic sweeping their continent. Now I know this all seems quite mundane to most of us Big time photographers, but If you can spare a few minutes I would recommend checking out his website.

Wow, I'm really doing a great job with not voicing my opinion about a photographer...

News: Orphan Works Bill Approved

For those of you interested S 2913 and HR 5889 both passed. While I know this isn't breaking news it's something the anyone who creates images should be very interested in. I'm not sure what to think to be honest. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Recommended Links: Cambridge In Colour

Have you've ever wanted to study the finer points of digital photography? Cambridge In Colour is an excellent source for in depth digital photography information. It's author and photographer Sean Mchugh covers many of the very technical aspects of photography that most other sites overlook. Loaded with tons of tutorials and interactive calculators this site is not for the faint of heart. A basic understanding of digital photography is a prereq. But if you are truly interested in all things photography dig in!

Photographer Spotlight: Martin Prihoda

This weeks photographer spotlight is on Vancouver based creative editorial, corporate and fashion portraiture photographer Martin Prihoda. This video was already posted over on Strobist but it's a great watch that everyone should see. In the video Martin shares some behind the scenes info, his feelings about giving back to the photographic community and also throws in little photo humor for good measure. If you've got some extra time be sure to check out his website martinprihoda.com (nice music!) for some great images.

Because this is the first post I don't really expect much discussion, to be honest I don't expect any discussion at all. But in the future I plan on this becoming a regular feature of Modern Imagemaking with us eventually interviewing the photographers being covered. So if and when we have some readers, here is my question: What did you find most significantly different about Martin and his methods? Do you like his style? Would you consider him on the cutting edge?

Because I don't want this site to be all about me and what I think, I'm going to sit back and keep my big mouth shut! This is all about you voicing your opinion. I already do that enough by bringing these photographers to your attention. I can't wait to see what you think!
